Free Crochet Pattern

Adult Bobble Hat & Scarf

Abbreviations

2ch  counts as first htr


Size to fit approx:

Hat:-  20 - 21” circumference

Scarf:-  10” wide x 48” long


Materials

100 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in red (1685) main colour

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast colours (sand and white)

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


TENSION - 9htr and 7 rows of htr measures approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm)

Bobble Hat - With 4.00mm hook make 80ch, ss to first ch to make a ring, 2ch, work 1htr

into each ch to end, make sure you don’t twist chain length as you go. Turn. (79htr + 2ch)


Next Row - 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt

last row 23 more times making 25 htr rows in all. Turn. ( you can do more rows here if required, but make sure you end on an odd number of rows).  


Brim

Next Row - Change to 5.00mm hook, working into back loop of stitch only on this row,

make 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Working through both loops of stitch from now on, join in sand colour yarn,

make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off (80dc)


Next Row - Join in white colour yarn and make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end, ss to top of 2ch. Turn. (79htr + 2ch)


Next Row - 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - Working and carrying the strands of yarn under the htr’s with you as you go

along the row, make 2ch, 1htr into next 2htr, drop white yarn and pick up the sand colour

yarn, work 1htr into next htr, * drop sand yarn and pick up red colour yarn, 1htr into each of next 3htr, drop red yarn and pick up sand colour yarn, 1htr into next htr, drop sand colour

and pick up white, 1htr into next 3htr, * rpt from * to * to end, finish with one sand colour htr into last htr, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Fasten off contrast colours and secure

on both ends of row.


Next Row - Using white colour yarn, make 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end, ss to top of 2ch

on beginning of row. Turn. Rpt last row once more. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in sand colour yarn, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off (80dc)


Next Row - Join in red colour yarn and make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end, ss to top of 2ch. Turn. Fasten off.


Return to loose loops around base of brim, with WS facing, 5.00mm hook and red colour yarn, rejoin to first loop, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each loose loop to end, ss to

first dc. Fasten off.


Finishing - Thread yarn through alternate htr’s at crown and gather tightly, make a large pom-pom (I used the Clover Pom-Pom maker) and attach to crown, sew and tie off any loose ends of yarn.


Scarf - With 5.00mm hook and red colour yarn make 44ch, (RS) 1htr into 3rd ch from hook, 1htr into each ch to end. Turn. (42htr + 2ch)


Next Row - 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end. Turn. Rpt last row 51 more times until 53 htr rows have been worked in all or work measures approx 42.5”. Turn. Fasten off.


Scarf Edge x 2

Next Row - Join in sand colour yarn, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end. Turn. Fasten off (43dc)


Next Row - Join in white colour yarn and make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end. Turn.

(42htr + 2ch)


Next Row - 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end. Turn.


Next Row - Working and carrying the strands of yarn under the htr’s with you as you go

along the row, make 2ch, 1htr into next 2htr, drop white yarn and pick up the sand colour

yarn, work 1htr into next htr, * drop sand yarn and pick up red colour yarn, 1htr into each of next 3htr, drop red yarn and pick up sand colour yarn, 1htr into next htr, drop sand colour

and pick up white, 1htr into next 3htr, * rpt from * to * to end, finish with one sand colour htr into last htr. Fasten off contrast colours and secure on both ends of row.


Next Row - With white colour yarn, make 2ch, 1htr into each htr to end. Turn. Rpt last row once more. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in sand colour yarn, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each htr to end. Turn. Fasten off (43dc)


Next Row - Join in red colour yarn and make 2ch, 1htr into each dc to end. Turn.

(42htr + 2ch) Work 1 more row in htr. Fasten off.


Return to cast on edge with WS facing, rejoin sand colour yarn and work same as first side of scarf edge.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends of yarn.
