Size to fit approx: 16” Chest, 0-3 month baby or 20-22” doll


Materials

100 grams of King Cole Melody in blueberry (963) main colour

Small amount of contrast colour

4.50mm & 3.50mm crochet hooks

5 Medium Buttons


TENSION - 13tr and 7 rows of tr measure approx 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm) with 3.50mm hook

Jacket (Back) - With 3.50mm hook and contrast colour, make 53ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (50tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, * 1trf into next tr, 1trb into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch to turn,

1trf into next tr, 1tr into top of turning ch. Turn. Starting with 1trb, rpt last row two more times. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main colour, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end,

1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (51dc)


Pattern Rows

Row 1 - 1ch, ss into base of 1ch,* 1tr into next dc, ss into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last

2dc, 1tr into next dc, ss into last dc. Turn.


Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each st to end. Turn. (51dc)


The last 2 rows form the pattern, rpt both rows until 23 complete patterns have been worked in all or work measures approx 8½”. Fasten off.


Right Front - With 3.50mm hook and contrast colour, make 25ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (22tr + 3ch)

 

Next Row - 3ch, * 1trf into next tr, 1trb into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. Starting with 1trb, rpt the last row two more times. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main colour, make 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end,

1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (23dc)


Continue with Pattern Rows 1 and 2 from back until 18 complete patterns have been worked or work measures approx 7”. Turn. (23dc)


Shape Neck – Work Pattern Row 1 to last 4dc. Turn leaving last 4dc un-worked.

 

Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each stitch to end. Turn. (19dc)


Next Row - Work Pattern 1 to last 2dc. Turn leaving last 2dc un-worked.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each stitch to end. Turn. (17dc). Rpt last two rows once. Turn. (15dc)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 from back until front measures the same as back. Fasten off.

 

Left Front - Work same as for Right front until 18 complete patterns or work measures 7”. Turn.


Shape Neck - 1ch, ss over first 5dc, 1ch, ss into base of 1ch, 1tr into next dc * ss into next dc, 1tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into each stitch to end. Turn. (19dc)


Next Row - 1ch, ss over first 3dc, continue with Pattern Row 1 to end. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each stitch to end. Turn. (17dc). Rpt last 2 rows once. (15dc)


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 from back until front measures same as back. Fasten off.


Sleeves x 2 - With 3.50mm hook and contrast colour, make 33ch, 1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (30tr + 3ch)

 

Next Row - 3ch * 1trf into next tr, 1trb into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (30tr + 3ch). Starting with 1trb, rpt last row 2 more times. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main colour, make 1ch, work 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (31dc). Work Pattern Row 1 once.


Starting with Pattern Row 2 continue by working Pattern Rows 1 and 2, keeping continuity of pattern and increasing 1dc on next and each end of every 4th row (Pattern Row 2) by working 2dc into base of 1ch and 2dc into last stitch at the end of row until 43st remain. Continue without further shaping until sleeve seam measures approx 5½” including cuff. Fasten off.


Right and Left Front Borders (Work both bands the same) With RS facing and 4.50mm hook rejoin contrast colour yarn with a ss into first stitch, starting with 3ch, work 44tr evenly along front edge to neck. Turn. (44tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, * work 1trf into next tr, 1trb into next tr, * rpt from * to * to end. Turn. Fasten off. With 4.50mm hook slip stitch both shoulder seams to back of cardigan.


Collar - With RS facing, contrast colour and 4.50mm hook join yarn to neck edge after front band with a ss, 3ch, work 55tr evenly all around neck edge to before front band on second side. Turn. (55tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 3ch, * 1trf into next tr, 1trb into next tr, * rpt from * to * to last tr and 3ch, 1trb into next tr, 1tr into 3rd of 3ch. Turn. Rpt last row 8 more times, making 10 rows in all for collar. Fasten off.


Finishing - Fold sleeves in half, place centre to shoulder seams and with 4.50mm hook ss into position, ss side and sleeve seams together, sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn. Turn through to RS. Fold collar back and tack to cardigan to secure. Sew on buttons, use gaps between tr’s for buttonholes.
