Bib and Booties


USA Format


Abbreviations

WS.      Wrong Side

RS.       Right Side

sc.        Single Crochet

hdc.      Half Double Crochet

dc.         Double Crochet

rpt.        Repeat

sl st.     Slip Stitch


DNT. Do Not Turn.


Dec.  Leaving the last loop of each stitch on hook,

         yo and draw through all loops.


Size to fit approx:  0-3 month Baby


Materials

50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton 4ply in cream (1692) Main Colour

50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton 4ply in contrast colour


OR

1.75oz of Fingering 100% Cotton in Main Color

1.75oz of Fingering 100% Cotton in Contrast Color

4.00mm & 5.00mm crochet hooks


GAUGE - 6hdc and 4 rows of hdc measures approx 1 inch square.

Boots - With 4.00mm hook and main color yarn, ch12, (RS) 3hdc in 4th ch from hook,

1hdc in each of next 7ch, 8hdc in last ch, working on opposite side of cast on ch, work

1hdc in each of next 7ch, 4hdc in last ch, sl st to top of the ch3 on beginning of row. DNT.

(29hdc + ch3)


Next Round - ch2, work 2hdc in each of next 3hdc, 1hdc in each of next 9hdc, 2hdc in

each of next 6hdc, 1hdc in each of next 9hdc, 2hdc in each of last 2hdc, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to top of ch2. DNT. (41hdc + ch2)


Next Round - ch2, skip first hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in base of ch2, sl st to

top of ch2. DNT. (41hdc + ch2).


Next Round - Working in back loop of stitch only, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each

hdc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn (42sc)


Next Round - Working through both loops ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end,

sl st to first sc. Turn (42sc). Rpt last row once. Fasten off.


Instep - With WS facing and counting from were you fastened off, skip 11sc, rejoin yarn

to next sc, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in next 19sc,  turn leaving 11sc un-worked. (20sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, dec 1sc over next 2sc, (see abbrev above) 9 times, 1sc in last sc. Turn. (11sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, (dec 1sc over next 2sc) 5 times. Turn. (6sc)


Next Row - (Dec Row) Insert hook and pull up loop in each sc, yrh, pull through 7 loops on hook to close, ch1. Turn. Fasten off.


Top - With 4.00mm hook, main color and WS facing rejoin yarn to back seam, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 1sc in each of next 10sc, 8sc evenly across top of instep, work 1sc in each of next 11sc, sl st to first sc. Turn. (30sc)


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to end, sl st to first sc. Turn. Rpt last

row eight more times. Fasten off.


Join in contrast color yarn and working through back loop of st only, rpt last row once. Turn. Working through both loops of st work last row once. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, (1sc, 3dc, 1sc) in base of ch1, * skip 2sc, (1sc, 3dc, 1sc) in next sc,

* rpt from * to * to last 2sc, skip last 2sc, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


With 5.00mm hook, contrast color yarn and sole of bootie facing towards you, rejoin yarn

to back seam, work one row of sc in loose loops around boot. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn, turn down top from loose loops onto front of bootie.


Double Sided Bib - (Back) # # With 5.00mm hook and main color yarn ch38, change to 4.00mm hook 1hdc in 3rd ch from hook 1hdc in each ch to end. Turn. (36hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. # # Rpt last row 18

more times or until work measures approx 5.5 inches from beginning. Turn


Back Split


First Side - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 17hdc, turn leaving 18hdc and ch2 un-worked.

(17hdc + ch2)


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. Rpt last row 8 more times, making 30 rows in all from beginning. Fasten off.


Second Side - Return to un-worked hdc were you split for first side, skip 1hdc, rejoin yarn

to next hdc.


Next Row - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (17hdc + ch2) Rpt last row until same as first side. Fasten off.


Bib Front - Rpt from # # to # # on back, rpt last row 22 more times or until work measures approx 6.5 inches from beginning. Turn.


Shape Neck


First Side - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 11hdc, turn leaving 24hdc and ch2 un-worked.

(11hdc + ch2)


Row 1 - ch2, dec 1hdc over next 2hdc, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (10hdc + ch2)


Row 2 - ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Rpt Row 1 & 2 once. Turn. Rpt Row 2. Fasten off. (9hdc + ch2)


Second Side - Return to un-worked hdc where you split for first side of neck, skip 13hdc, rejoin yarn to next hdc, work ch2, 1hdc in each hdc to end, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.


Complete second side same as first reversing shaping. Fasten off.


Edging - Using 5.00mm hook and main color yarn sl st shoulder seams together.

(You can use a needle and yarn to sew if you wish).


Back Opening and Neck Edging - With RS facing and 4.00mm hook, join main color

yarn to base of back opening on right hand side, ch1, working in row ends, work 15sc

evenly up first side of back opening to neck edge, 3sc in corner, work 18sc evenly around and down first side of front neck edge, 1sc in each of next 13hdc, work 18sc evenly up

and around second side of front edge to next corner, 3sc in corner, 15sc evenly in row

ends down second side of back opening. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, ch1, 1sc in each sc all around neck to end, working 3sc in both corners. Fasten off.


With 4.00mm hook, rejoin contrast color yarn to centre sc on corners and work 30ch on

each for ties. Fasten off.


Bib Border - With RS of work facing and 4.00mm hook, join main color yarn to centre st

on cast on edge of back, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each ch to corner, 3sc in corner, work 90sc evenly in row ends along back and front of bib to next corner, 3sc in corner,

1sc in each ch along cast on edge of front of bib to next corner, 3sc in corner, work 90sc evenly in row ends along front and back of bib to next corner, work 3sc in corner, 1sc in

each of remaining ch across to center back, sl st to first sc. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc around bib to end, working 3sc in all

four corners, sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in contrast color yarn, ch1, (1sc, 3dc, 1sc) in base of ch1, * skip 2sc,

(1sc, 3dc, 1sc) in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 2sc, skip last 2sc, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off loose ends of yarn.
