Centre Piece & Tissue Box Cover

Abbreviations

WS.       Wrong Side

RS.        Right Side

dc.        Double Crochet

tr.          Treble Crochet

rpt.        Repeat

ss.         Slip Stitch


tr5tog.  Leaving last loop of each tr on hook,

work 5tr into next tr, yrh and pull through

all loops.


Crab Stitch.  Working left to right work dc

backwards 3ch counts as first tr

Centre Piece 9“ x 9“

Tissue Box Cover to fit approx 4.5”(w) x 4.5”(d) x 5”(h) box of tissues


Materials

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in nil (007) main colour

50 grams of King Cole big value baby DK in contrast

4.00mm & 4.50mm crochet hooks


TENSION - 10tr and 4 rows of tr’s measures approx 2” x 2”

Centre Piece

With 4.50mm Hook and main colour yarn, make 32ch loosely, change to 4.00mm hook,

1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (29tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.

Turn. (30dc)


Pattern Row 1 - 3ch, 1tr into each dc to end. Turn.


Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch.

Turn.


Pattern Rows 1 & 2 form the pattern, rpt both rows until 10 complete patterns have

been worked in all. Work Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.


Edging  - With 4.00mm hook, make 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each dc along

to 3ch to turn, 3dc into top of 3ch, working into row ends and down first side of centre

piece, work 28dc evenly along to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each tr along bottom

of centre piece to corner, 3dc into corner, working into row ends and up second side of

table centre, work 28dc evenly along to corner,  1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc. Turn.


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each dc all around four sides of centre piece, working 3tr into corners, 1tr into base of 3ch on beginning of row, ss to top of 3ch.

Fasten off.


Next Row - With WS facing, join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,

* make 1ch, miss 1tr, tr5tog (see abbrev) into next tr, 1ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into next dc,

* rpt from * to * around four sides to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main colour, 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each stitch, including

all 1ch spaces to end, working 3tr into corners, 1tr into base of 3ch on beginning of row,

ss to top of 3ch. Turn.


Working into each tr and starting with 1ch, work one row of crab stitch all around. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn.


Tissue Box Cover


Main Part - With 4.50mm hook and main colour make 80ch, ss to first ch to make a ring, change to 4.00mm hook, 3ch, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. Fasten off. (79tr + 3ch)


Next Row - With WS facing, join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, * make 1ch, miss 1tr, tr5tog into next tr, 1ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss

to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.


Next Row - Join in main colour, 3ch, 1tr into each stitch, including all 1ch spaces to end,

ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn. (79tr + 3ch)


Work Pattern Row 2 once, ss to first dc at the end of the row. Turn. (80dc) Continue working Pattern Rows 1 & 2 three more times, (you can add or reduce rows here, depending on the height of your tissue box) ss and turn at the end of each row. Work Pattern Row 1 once.  Fasten off.


Next Row – With WS facing, join in contrast colour yarn, 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,

* make 1ch, miss 1tr, tr5tog into next tr, 1ch, miss 1tr, 1dc into next dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first dc. Turn. Fasten off.


With main colour yarn and working into each stitch and 1ch space, rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 once, ss and turning at the end of rows. Fasten off.


With WS facing return to cast on ch at the bottom of the tissue box cover, rejoin main

colour yarn into first stitch after seam with a ss, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into

each stitch along to end, ss to first dc. (80dc) Turn. Work one row of crab stitch, ss to first dc. Fasten off.


Top - With 4.50mm hook and main colour yarn, make 22ch, change to 4.00mm hook,

1tr into 4th ch from hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (19tr + 3ch)


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr to end, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (20dc)


Rpt Pattern Row 1 & 2 twice. Turn.


Next Row -  3ch, 1tr into each of next 3dc, 12ch, miss 12dc, 1tr into each of last 4dc. Turn.


Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into next 3dc, work 12dc evenly into 12ch

space, 1dc into each of next 3dc, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn.


Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 three more times. Fasten off.


With WS facing and 4.50mm hook, work through front loop of stitch only on main part of tissue box cover, ss to top of cover to join together, starting with seam of main part onto a corner of the top part, make sure you ss 20dc to each of the four sides of the top piece.


With 4.00mm hook and RS facing, starting on a corner and working around top, work

one row of crab stitch into loose loops created when joining main part to top. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off all loose ends of yarn.
