Free Crochet Pattern
Festive Placemat

Abbreviations
ch. Chain
dc. Double Crochet
tr. Treble Crochet
rpt. Repeat
ss. Slip Stitch
yrh. Yarn round Hook
Tr2tog.
Leaving last loop of each tr on hook,
work 2tr into same space,
yrh and pull through all 3 loops.
Crab stitch.
Working from left to right, work dc backwards.
Base of ch. Work into first stitch
3ch counts as first tr
Approx size:- 14 Inches x 11 Inches
Materials
60 grams of Double Knitting Yarn for each placemat
7.00mm & 5.00mm crochet hooks
TENSION - 4 tr2tog and 3 rows of pattern measures approx 1 Inch

With 7.00mm hook make 45ch, change to 5.00mm hook, tr2tog (see abbrev) into 4th ch
from hook, tr2tog into each ch to last ch, 1tr into last ch. Turn. (41, tr2tog, 1tr
+ 3ch)
Next Row - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr2tog to end, 1dc into top of
3ch.
Turn. (43dc)
Pattern Row 1 - 3ch, tr2tog into each dc to last dc, 1tr into last dc. Turn.
Pattern Row 2 - 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr2tog to end, 1dc into
top of
3ch. Turn.
Repeat Pattern Rows 1 & 2 until twenty six rows have been worked in all or placemat
measures 10 Inches from beginning. Turn.
Work Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.
Edging - Make 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc into each tr2tog to 3ch to turn, 3dc
into top
of 3ch, working down first side of placemat into row ends, work 40dc evenly along
to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along cast on edge, 3dc into corner,
working up second side of placemat into row ends, work 40dc evenly along to corner,
1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc. Turn.
Starting with 1ch, work 2 more rows of 1dc into each dc around all sides, working
3dc into corners. Turn.
Work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev) all around four sides of placemat, working
2 stitches into each corner, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Fasten off.
