Materials

1.75oz of Worsted Weight Yarn in Main

Oddment of Worsted Weight Yarn in Contrast

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


Gauge - 9hdc and 6 rows of hdc’s measures approx 2” x 2”

Sewing Kit - With 5.00mm hook and main color yarn, ch21 loosely, change to

4.00mm hook, work 1hdc in 4th ch from hook, 1hdc in each of next 15ch, 2hdc in next

ch, 8hdc in last ch, working along opposite side on cast on ch, work 2hdc in next ch,

1hdc in each of next 16ch, 1hdc in base of ch3 from beginning of row. Turn.

(45hdc + ch2)


Row 2 - (Inside of Kit) ch2, 1hdc in each of next 20hdc, 2hdc in each of next 4hdc,

1hdc in each of next 20hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (49hdc + ch2)


Row 3 - ch2, 1hdc in each of next 21hdc, 2hdc in each of next 6hdc, 1hdc in each of

next 21hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (55hdc + ch2)


Row 4 - ch2, 1hdc in next 23hdc, * 2hdc in next hdc, 1hdc in next hdc * rpt from * to * three more times, 1hdc in next 23hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (59hdc + ch2)


Row 5 - ch2, 1hdc in next 24hdc, * 2hdc in next hdc, 1hdc in next hdc * rpt from * to * four more times, 1hdc in next 24hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn. (64hdc + ch2)


Row 6 - ch2, 1hdc in next 26hdc, * 2hdc in next hdc, 1hdc in next hdc * rpt from * to * four more times, 2hdc in next hdc, 1hdc in each of next 26hdc, 1hdc in top of ch2. Turn.

(70hdc + ch2)


Row 7 - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each hdc to ch2 to turn on the end of row, (70sc)

3sc in top of ch2. Work 13sc evenly across the bottom of kit, 1sc in the base of the first

sc, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Pockets – Using main color and 4.00mm hook ch16 loosely, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook,

1sc in each ch to end. Turn. (15sc) Work 13 more rows in sc on these stitches making

14 rows in all. Turn.


Next Row - ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each sc to last sc, 3sc in last sc, working down the side of pocket work 1sc in each row to corner, (13sc) 3sc in corner, 1sc in each sc

along bottom of pocket to next corner, (13sc) 3sc in corner, 1sc in each row end to last corner, (13sc) 1sc in base of sc, sl st to sc. Turn. Fasten off.


With contrast color and 4.00mm hook, re-join yarn to centre sc on corner at beginning of

row, ch1, 1sc in base of ch1, work 16sc across row. Fasten off. Turn. Join in main color

and work one more row in sc on these 17sc. Fasten off. Sew in and tie off all loose ends

of yarn.


Using main color, with inside of main piece facing you and curve at the top, place the

pocket square onto the bottom half, lining up the three straight sides, sl st main piece and pocket together by working through centre stitch on both pieces up to top of pocket to split pocket in 2 compartments.


Chain Ties and Edging

(First tie) Using contrast color, ch31, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, with inside of kit facing and curve edge downwards, (work through the 2sc, (1sc on main, 1sc

on pocket) to seal pocket to the main piece), starting from centre sc on bottom straight

edge, work 1sc in each sc to corner, 3sc in corner, continue to work through both pieces

and work 1sc in each of next 35sc to centre of curve, (second tie) ch31, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to end, sl st in same sc, 1sc in each of next 35sc to corner (joining second half of pocket and main piece as you go), 3sc in corner, 1sc in each of remaining

sc, sl st around the back of the chain tie to first sc. Fasten off.


Rejoin main color and work one more row of sc working 3sc in corners and sl st to first sc. Fasten off.


Motif - ch4, sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch2, work 9sc in ring, sl st to top of ch2.

(9sc +ch2) Fasten off.

Join in contrast color, ch1, work (2dc, 1sc) in base of ch1, sl st in next sc, * work (1sc, 2dc, 1sc) in next sc, sl st in next sc, * rpt from * to * to end, sl st to first sc. (5 groups made) Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew in and tie off any loose ends of yarn, attach motif to front of rounded end

on sewing kit, decorate with a rosebud. Fill kit with cottons, tape measure, safety pins,

sewing needles and scissors etc.
