3ch counts as first tr


Crab Stitch. dc worked backwards


Base of ch. Work into first stitch


Finished size approx:  9 x 9 Inches


Materials

50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK in main colour

Oddments of Patons 100% Cotton DK in 3 contrast colours

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


TENSION - 1.5, 3tr Groups and 3 rows measures approx 1 Inch Square

With 5.00mm hook and main colour make 40ch, change to 4.00mm hook, (RS) work 1tr

into 4th ch, * miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch, miss 1ch, 3tr into next ch, * rpt from * to * to last

4ch, miss 1ch, 1dc into next ch, miss 1ch, 2tr into last ch. Turn. (8, 3tr groups + 2 halves)


Working into back loop only of all dc's from now on work as follows:-


Pattern Row 1 - Make 1ch, dc into base of 1ch, * miss 1tr, 3tr into next dc, miss 1tr, 1dc

into centre tr of 3tr group, * rpt from * to * to last dc, tr and 3ch, miss 1tr, 3tr into last dc,

miss 1tr, 1dc into top of 3ch. Turn. (9,3tr groups)


Pattern Row 2 - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, * miss 1tr, 1dc into centre tr of 3tr group, miss

1tr, 3tr into next dc, * rpt from * to * to last 3tr group and dc, miss 1tr, 1dc into centre tr of

3tr group, miss 1tr, work 2tr into last dc. Turn.


Fasten off main colour and using first contrast colour work Pattern Row 1, Fasten off.


Using second contrast colour work Pattern Row 2. Fasten off.


Using third contrast colour Work Pattern Row 1. Fasten off.


Join in main colour and work Pattern Row 2, Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 four more times

each until 15 rows have been worked in all from beginning or work measures approx 5 inches. Fasten off.


Working colours in reverse order, work Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1 using the 3

contrast colours. Fasten off.


Join in main colour and work Pattern Row 2, 1 & 2. Turn.


Edging - Working through both loops from now on make 1ch, 2dc into base of 1ch, 1dc

into each tr and dc to corner, 3dc into corner, working into row ends down first side of cloth, work 31dc evenly along to corner, 3dc into corner, 1dc into each ch along cast on edge to corner, 3dc into corner, working into row ends up second side of cloth work 31dc evenly along to corner, 1dc into base of 1ch, ss to first dc on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into base of 3ch, 1tr into each dc around all four sides of cloth, working 3tr into each corner, ss to top of 3ch on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - Starting with 1ch and 2dc into base of the 1ch, work one row of 1dc into each

tr all around four sides of cloth, working 3dc into corners, ss to first dc on the beginning of row. DNT.


Work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev) into each dc to end, ss to first dc on beginning of

row. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew and tie off all loose ends.
