ch3 counts as first dc


Crab Stitch. sc worked backwards


Base of ch. Work in first stitch


Finished size approx:  9 x 9 Inches


Materials

50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK in main colour

Oddments of Patons 100% Cotton DK in 3 contrast colours


OR

1.7oz of 100% Worsted Weight Cotton in main color

Oddments of 100% Worsted Weight Cotton in 3 contrast colors

5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks


GAUGE - 1.5, 3dc Groups and 3 rows measures approx 1 Inch Square

With 5.00mm hook and main color ch40, change to 4.00mm hook, (RS) work 1dc in 4th

ch, * skip 1ch, 1sc in next ch, skip 1ch, 3dc in next ch, * rpt from * to * to last 4ch's, skip

1ch, 1sc in next ch, skip 1ch, 2dc in last ch. Turn. (8, 3dc groups + 2 halves)


Working in back loop only of all sc's from now on work as follows:-


Pattern Row 1 - ch1, sc in base of ch1, * skip 1dc, 3dc in next sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in centre

dc of 3dc group, * rpt from * to * to last sc, dc and ch3, skip 1dc, 3dc in last sc, skip 1dc,

1sc in top of ch3. Turn. (9,3dc groups)


Pattern Row 2 - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, * skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc of 3dc group, skip 1dc, 3dc in next sc, * rpt from * to * to last 3dc group and sc, skip 1dc, 1sc in centre dc

of 3dc group, skip 1dc, work 2dc in last sc. Turn.


Fasten off main color and using first contrast color work Pattern Row 1, Fasten off.


Using second contrast color work Pattern Row 2. Fasten off.


Using third contrast color Work Pattern Row 1. Fasten off.


Join in main color and work Pattern Row 2, Rpt Pattern Rows 1 & 2 four more times

each until 15 rows have been worked in all from beginning or work measures approx 5 inches. Fasten off.


Working colors in reverse order, work Pattern Rows 1, 2 & 1 using the 3

contrast colors. Fasten off.


Join in main color and work Pattern Row 2, 1 & 2. Turn.


Edging - Working through both loops from now on ch1, 2sc in base of ch1, 1sc in each

dc and sc to corner, 3sc in corner, working in row ends down first side of cloth, work 31sc evenly along to corner, 3sc in corner, 1sc in each ch along cast on edge to corner, 3sc in corner, working in row ends up second side of cloth work 31sc evenly along to corner, 1sc

in base of ch1, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - ch3, 1dc in base of ch3, 1dc in each sc around all four sides of cloth, working 3dc in each corner, sl st to top of ch3 on beginning of row. Turn.


Next Row - Starting with ch1 and 2sc in base of the ch1, work one row of 1sc in each dc

all around four sides of cloth, working 3sc in corners, sl st to first sc on the beginning of row. DNT.


Work 1 row of crab stitch (see abbrev) in each sc to end, sl st to first sc on beginning of row. Fasten off.


Finishing - Sew and tie off all loose ends.
