Materials
300 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK in Main Colour
50 grams of Patons 100% Cotton DK in Contrast Colours (1 & 2)
5.00mm & 4.00mm crochet hooks
TENSION - 10tr and 4.5 rows of tr’s measures approx. 2” square

Using 5.00mm hook and main colour, make 81ch loosely, (RS) 1tr into 4th ch from
hook, 1tr into each ch to end. Turn. (78tr + 3ch) Change to 4.00mm hook.
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2ch, miss 1tr, 1tr into each of next
5tr,
* rpt from * to * to last 3tr and 3ch to turn, work 2ch, miss 1tr, 1tr into each
of next 2tr,
1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (12, 5tr blocks + 2 half blocks each end)
Next Row - 3ch, miss first 2tr, * 6tr into 2ch space, miss 2tr, 1tr into next tr,
miss next
2tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, 2tr and 3ch to turn, 6tr into 2ch space,
miss 2tr,
1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (13, 6tr groups)
Pattern Row 1- 3ch, 1tr into each of next 2tr, * 2ch, miss 2tr, 1tr into each of

Pattern Row 2 - 3ch, miss first 2tr, * 6tr into 2ch space, miss 2tr, 1tr into next

next 2tr, * rpt from * to * to last 2ch space, 2tr and 3ch to turn, 6tr into 2ch

2tr, 1tr into top of 3ch. Turn. (13, 6tr groups)
Pattern Rows 1 & 2 form the pattern for the mat, rpt both rows 26 more times. Work
Pattern Row 1 once. Turn.
Next Row - 3ch, 1tr in each tr and 1tr into each 2ch space to end. (78tr + 3ch)
Edging - Using 4.00mm hook, with RS facing starting from corner, working into row
ends, work down first side of rug, make 3ch, work 2tr into each row end to end. Fasten
off. (118tr + 3ch) Working into rows ends rpt the same on the second side. Fasten
off. Turn.
Next row - Using contrast colour (1) with WS facing, work 1ch, 1dc into base of 1ch,
1dc into each tr to 3ch to turn, 3dc into top of 3ch, working along the side of 3ch,
work
1dc into 3ch space, 1dc into each of 79tr along cast on chain on the bottom of the
mat,
1dc into side of tr, 3dc into top of tr, 1dc into each tr to 3ch to turn, 3dc into
top of 3ch, working along the side of 3ch, work 1dc into 3ch space, 1dc into each
of 79tr along top
of mat, 1dc into side of tr, 1dc into base of first dc, ss to first dc. Turn. Work
1 more row
in dc turning at the end of row, working 3dc into corners and ss to first dc. Fasten
off.
Rejoin main colour and work 1 more row of 1dc into each dc, turning at the end of
row
and working 3dc into corners, ss to first dc. Fasten off.
Next Row - Join Contrast colour (2), work 2ch, (3tr, 1htr) into base of 2ch, miss
1dc, 1dc
into next dc, * miss 1dc (1htr, 3tr, 1htr) into next dc, miss 1dc, 1dc into next
dc * rpt from
* to * around all four sides of mat, ss to top of 2ch on beginning of row. Turn.
Fasten off.
Next Row - Rejoin main colour to first dc, work 1ch, ss into base of 1ch, * 1dc into
next
(htr, 3tr and htr), ss into dc, * rpt from * to * to end, ss to first ss on beginning
of row.
Fasten off.
Finishing - Sew in and tie of all loose ends of cotton.
